Still in the festive mood? Fred Claus might help...

Santa Claus may have finished his round by the time you read this review, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot begin stocking up on next year’s Christmas play list. This soundtrack album for the 2007 festive movie contains a fair bit of cheery Christmas songs that are evergreen and will definitely not go out of fashion anytime soon. The 46-minute album features a mix of much-sung tunes like “Jingel Bells”, “Sleigh Ride” and “Here Comes Santa Claus" and yes, Jackson 5’s (yes, the one with wacko Michael Jackson as a kid) “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”. Get the full picture here!

THE WARLORDS collecting S$1million in 5 days

You want to know why Andy is so cheerful?

Because his latest masterpiece, "The Warlords" directed by Peter Chan has now grossed over $1 million in Singapore, barely 5 days in the local cinemas.

The Warlords has continued to show strength after its stellar weekend opening and looks set to hit beyond the $2 million mark for its release in Singapore. The star-studded mega blockbuster also dominated the theatres in both Hong Kong and China, delivering stunning results at the Box Office.

HK cinema will never die, just throw in a mega cast, a solid script and a genuine production and audience will definitely buy a ticket to support it on the big screen. So how did that nonsensical talk about piracy looting HK cinema came about?

The Substation Moving Images 10th Anniversary Celebrations

Most of you will probably already know that The Substation's Moving Images (MI) programme is Singapore's only year-round programme dedicated to local, independent and short film. And it's hard to imagine that 10 years have already flown by!

To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, MI is throwing a big party, so it's one long weekend of film fun, with screenings, talks and even a Movie Paraphernalia Market, from 7th to 10th December (Fri-Sun), all around The Substation premises. And in the tradition of the programme, most admissions are either free, or by donation/pay as you wish.

Fans of local short film maker Jacen Tan (of Tak Giu, Zo Peng and Zo Gang fame) will be pleased to know that The Substation had commissioned him to do a new short film capturing the essence of independent filmmaking in Singapore, and "Zo Hee" (the sequel to "Zo Gang") will make its premiere on 7th Dec 8pm. If you'd see what Jacen had done with his previous works, I'm sure you'll be as excited as me to see how this one will turn out, starring "Merlion Tan" from Zo Gang too! Don't Miss This!

What are you waiting for? Click on the event logo above, or hit this link for details on events and their specific timings. Those of you on Facebook (I know you do) can click on this event link to set yourself a reminder, and to invite your friends along.

See you at The Substation!

Worldwide Trailer Launch of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

As a result of a global broadcast and online launch effort, the theatrical trailer for Walt Disney Pictures’ and Walden Media’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” is poised to capture the largest worldwide audience ever for a theatrical trailer debut with over 400 million viewers, it was announced by Mark Zoradi, president, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group.

The trailer will debut locally on AXN, Starhub Digital Cable Channel 19, at 8.57pm (before The Amazing Race) on December 6 with a simulcast over TV Mobile. This will be followed by online placements across various local sites the day after.

In an effort to reward the faithful fans, who have been the biggest champions of the Narnia movies, Disney has orchestrated a simultaneous, fan-driven launch of the trailer on all Narnia fan sites -- from Narnia Web and Narnia Fans, to all Narnia groups on social media communities like Facebook and MySpace. “We saw an unparalleled volume of discussion online for the trailer, and this was an opportunity to give these loyal fans a chance to be among the first in the world to view it, take ownership of it and spread it amongst their family and friends, “ said Mark Zoradi.

In “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” the four Pevensie children – Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna Popplewell), Edward (Skandar Keynes), and Lucy (Georgie Henley) - are summoned back to the magical land of talking animals and mythical creatures, where they discover that more than a thousand Narnian years have passed since their last adventure and much has changed. The White Witch may be dead, but Narnia is under the sway of a tyrannical new ruler, King Miraz (Sergio Castellitto), and the Pevensies must unite with the young Prince Caspian (played by British actor Ben Barnes) in an attempt to restore peace and harmony to the once happy land. The new film reunites the original creative team behind the blockbuster first film including veteran director / screenwriter / producer Andrew Adamson, screenwriters Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and producers Mark Johnson and Philip Steuer. “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” is the second installment of the seven book series. The film opens worldwide in May 2008.

AFFF 2007 Results

Two films – Dharm (India) and Lucky Miles (Australia) – both forerunners vying for the Best Film Award category, finished together at the Asian Festival of 1st Films (AFFF) Awards Night held this evening at the Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel. Given the superior quality of all the nominees this year, choosing one winner was an extremely tough call for the jury who eventually awarded not just one but two award categories with double winners, the other for the “Best Female Actor” category.

In honour of the efforts by these first-time filmmakers, this festival was graced by international film
celebrities including Auraeus Solito (Philippines), Josie Ho (Hong Kong) and Nagesh Kukunoor (India).

Several first time film makers including nominees of the 23 feature films and documentaries from 17
countries flew in to attend the star-studded awards ceremony, a glamorous climax to close the week-long festival in Singapore.

Who is Kyle XY?

Kyle XY is ABC's sci-fi teen drama that harnesses every bit of boyish charm lead actor Matt Dallas can muster, subsequently hedging its entire bet on it. Dallas stars as Kyle, an intergalactic vagrant of sorts stranded on Earth, completely oblivious to both his past and who he is. Critics all over have referenced Roswell and Smallville - not quite appropriate in my books.
Kyle XY shares the intergalactic mysteriousness of Roswell without the darker undertones and seriousness of the latter- Kyle scores rather high on the teen campiness and comedic element. Read on for our DVD review of KYLE XY: DECLASSIFIED
