Singapore Dreaming - Meet the Cast & Autograph Session

MovieXclusive.com was at IMM last Sunday for the Singapore Dreaming Meet the Cast and Autograph session. Attended by directors Colin Goh and Woo Yen Yen, cast members - Richard Low, Lim Yu-Beng, Alice Lim were also in attendance, with Dick Su doing double duties as the MC for the afternoon. As revealed by Colin Goh, IMM was one of the venues where the dinner and toilet scene were filmed (which happen to be one of my favourite scenes in the movie), so it wasn't a random selection of venues to host the event.

For a local non big-budgeted film, such a session is indeed rare, and it's to coincide with the recent launch of the Singapore Dreaming DVD and VCD. As MC, Dick was given the task of rousing the crowd and getting everyone at IMM to come to the stage area for some Q&A, where some attractive prizes sponsored by Crocodile and Scorpio East were given away to lucky winners.

The highlight of the evening was the interactive game where selected audiences were given the opportunity to partner the cast members in a game in search of the 5Cs, or rather, to gather items from around the shopping complex which begin with the letter C. It's to no surprise that the charismatic Richard Low and his team managed to win this one, given that he actually tried staying in character every now and then, and was "donated" items like cucumbers and corn from an enthusiastic member of the audience who had just gone about doing his grocery shopping.

For those who had bought the VCD or DVD, the directors and cast were on hand to autograph the items, and even those who had not made purchases, they were also able to meet the team up close, and obtain an autographed poster. How cool is that?

"CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER" SINGAPORE GALA

CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER, China's submission for the Academy Awards®, will be released in Singapore by Buena Vista International.

Directed by critically acclaimed Zhang Yimou (Hero, Raise the Red Lantern) and produced by Bill Kong (Fearless, House of Flying Daggers), the film sees the comeback of the veteran actor, Chow Yun Fat (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, coming Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End) to the Asian movie scene. The veteran actor is joined by notable actress Gong Li (Miami Vice, Memoirs of a Geisha) for the first time. The movie also casts a leading role for Asia's pop idol, Jay Chou (Initial D,) in his period epic debut.

In the spirit of such a landmark film, the leading cast will be in Singapore to promote the film and to grace the Gala Premiere of the movie. The event will be held at the Golden Village Cineplex at VivoCity on December 12, 2006.

Curse of the Golden Flower is the most ambitious undertaking in Chinese contemporary filmmaking history which brings Zhang Yimou's production to an even greater height. It promises to be Zhang's most colorful and biggest production to date, fusing great visual composition with high drama and romantic intrigue.

The sense of opulence is intensely portrayed in the movie through the extensive use of the color gold and elaborate costumes. Colorful Chinese art glass forms the entire structure of the palace from the pillars, walls and windows, to intensify hues and translucence. The end result is both astonishing and elaborate.

An epic tale of love, betrayal and ultimately vengeance the plot concerns the volatile balance of power between the King (Chow Yun Fat), the Queen (Gong Li) and his three sons in the mysterious Tang Dynasty Imperial palace grounds.

"Curse of the Golden Flower" opens in Singapore theatres December 21, 2006

Confession Of Pain ~ Latest Press Release from Hong Kong 22 Nov

“Confession of Pain”, Media Asia Films’ grand finale this year, literally illuminated the apm shopping mall last night (Nov. 20) as its star Tony Leung Chiu-wai and directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak hosted the Christmas lighting ceremony. Thousands of dedicated fans already swarmed the place hours early, and they screamed with joy when Tony Leung appeared in a sports car with the directing duo.

Leung said he needed to stay in Shanghai this Christmas for director Ang Lee’s new film “Lust, Caution”, and had to forgo spending the holiday with his girlfriend Carina Lau. “As this film has foreign investment, everything has a strict schedule to follow,” Leung explained. “I would feel bad if I cause any delay.”

Regarding the upcoming Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan, which Carina Lau was nominated for Best Actress, Tony Leung couldn’t be there to support her, but he was confident that she could win. “The nomination is already an acknowledgement of your work. For the audience, the apt reward is to see actors performing their best on screen.”

The lighting ceremony also previewed the music video of “Confession of Pain’s” promotional song, performed by Denise Ho. Director Andrew Lau laughed when someone noticed the MV featured more shots of Takeshi Kaneshiro than Tony Leung. He explained that the MV was edited by the song’s producer, but Tony will get a second chance when the extended version is released later.

When being asked if he was worried that his film would be up against “Curse of the Golden Flower”, Lau said that it’s always fun to have competition. When “Infernal Affairs” was released four years ago, it clashed with Zhang’s “Hero”, the first “Harry Potter” film and comedy “Golden Chicken”, yet everyone came out a winner. He believed this would be the healthy sign for the film industry.

“CONFESSION OF PAIN”OFFICIAL POSTER REVEALED

Confession of Pain”, Media Asia Films’ grand finale this year, is a HK$80m production co-produced by Media Asia, Hong Kong’s Sil-Metropole, Japan’s Avex and Beijing’s Polybona Films. The “Infernal Affairs” creative trio, including co-directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, with scriptwriter Felix Chong, will collaborate again on this film. The stellar cast features the hottest screen idols in Asia, including Cannes winner Tony Leung Chiu-wai, pop icon Takeshi Kaneshiro, Golden Horse-winning actress Shu Qi, Hundred Flowers winner Xu Jinglei, and Golden Horse nominee Chapman To.

A regular in Andrew Lau’s films since “Infernal Affairs”, Chapman To is a renowned trickster on location, often bringing laughter to crew members and his female co-stars. When the film was lensed at a brand new five-star hotel in Central recently, To attempted to break the ice with his reserved co-star Xu Jinglei. He began with his famous rubber band magic trick, which appeared in his previous film “Isabella”. It soon caught Xu’s attention and the actress was aspired to learn it. When she attempted and failed continuously, director Andrew Lau finally exposed To’s devious plan that he had withheld a key step so Xu would never succeed! The trickster’s mission had accomplished.

The official poster of “Confession of Pain” is out in theatres, and it features leading men Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Takeshi Kaneshiro in their respective roles -- Leung as a shady officer in the Organized Crime Division, and Kaneshiro as an alcoholic private detective. The production of this magnificent poster is as meticulous as the film itself, as it requires the two actors to spend an entire day posing for the camera. Being the professionals as always, Leung and Kaneshiro got into their characters quickly, and the audience would undoubtedly sense the tingling simply from the poster, as it foretells the immaculate showdown between two of Asia’s greatest screen icons!

You can see the official poster on our webpage:
