200 Pounds Beauty: Singapore's Top Grossing Korean Film

The film spent the last three weekends among the Top 3 most watched movies at the box office charts in Singapore, and has amassed a cumulative box office of $840,578 to date on 18 screens. This makes the Korean romantic comedy the best-selling Korean movie ever in Singapore, surpassing the previous record holder The Wishing Stairs ($839,000 in Nov 2003) and The Host (award-winning hit which collected $680,000 in Oct 2006).

SPIDER-MAN™ 3 MAKES MOTION PICTURE HISTORY

The world’s moviegoers were caught in the web of Columbia Pictures’ Spider-Man™ 3 at the global box office this weekend as the film grossed $382 million worldwide, the highest opening ever in motion picture history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, vice chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment. Of that, $231 million was tallied from international ticket sales, with $151 million coming from the film’s record-setting debut in North America. Playing in 4,252 domestic locations, the film took in an average of $35,540 per screen. The film also unspooled at more than 8,900 locations abroad.

In addition to being #1 for the weekend in all 107 territories around the world in which it opened, Spider-Man 3 set a new mark for the biggest weekend of all time in 29 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Italy, Mexico, and Brazil. Among its many accomplishments, the film set new records for the biggest single worldwide day (Saturday, May 5 - $117,631,328), biggest international opening ($231 million), and biggest worldwide opening ($382 M).

Many of the opening frame records were broken by astounding margins. In Korea, Spider-Man 3 did three times the business of the previous record holder (Korean film The Host) and bested the previous-best Hollywood film (The Matrix Reloaded) by more than four times. In Japan, Spider-Man 3 broke the old record opening weekend by 44%; in Brazil, by 48%, in Mexico by 37%; and in Italy, the film beat the previous record holder The DaVinci Code by 24%.

Among the domestic records set by Spider-Man 3 are biggest opening weekend ($151,116,516), biggest single day (Friday, $59,841,919), and biggest per-theater average for a wide release ($35,540). The film also set a new record for the largest domestic gross in IMAX theaters, with $4.8 million.

Shrek 3 - Birth Announcement

Shrek and Fiona are proud to announce the arrival of their three new bundles of joy – (they’re still deciding on names), and wish to share their happiness with the subjects of Far Far Away. Shrek’s best friend, Donkey, is also delighted that his five naughty toddlers, Cocoa, Debbie, Banana, Peanuts and Parfait, have a brand new set of playmates.

SPIDER LILIES...Coming Soon

SPIDER LILIES, co-distributed by Cathay-Keris Films and Encore Films, opens 14 June 2007 in Singapore. Rainie Yang and director Zero Chou will grace the gala premiere of Spider Lilies at The Cathay on 29 May 2007.

This movie has participated in numerous film festivals including the 2007 Hong Kong International Film Festival Official Selection) and the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Teddy Award, a first in Taiwan's cinema. In Singapore, this movie has been rated R21 (Some Homosexual Content).

In its home country Taiwan, the movie opened strongly with a striking screen average of US$17,850 which is the third largest in 2007, the first and second being Hollywood blockbusters 300 and Ghost Rider. In Hong Kong, the movie grossed over US$157,459 in its opening weekend on just 9 prints.

In Spider Lilies, Rainie Yang plays the role of Jade, a webcam girl who visits a tattoo parlour to look for sexy decoration to excite her clientele. She requests for a spider-lily tattoo similar to one framed at the tattoo parlour but the female tattoo artist, Takeko (played by upcoming, promising HK actress Isabella Leong) is reluctant to accede to her request. Visiting Jade's website, Takeko finds out that she is a webcam girl but does not realise that they knew each other 10 years ago when Jade had a crush on her.
