Free outdoor screening of Sarjan Hassan, a WWII film from Singapore

You have probably seen high budget war films such as Saving Private Ryan and Thin Red Line. What about films that deals with war and memories from Southeast Asia?

The Asian Film Archive has curated a free film screening of a classic war film tomorrow evening. The film – Sarjan Hassan (Sergeant Hassan) is co-directed by two film masters in the 50s: P. Ramlee from Singapore and Lamberto Avellana, from Philipines. This is in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations of two WWII museums here – Reflection at Bukit Chandu and Memories at Old Fort Factory.

Highlights to the film:
- Sarjan Hassan (aka Sergeant Hassan), is a wartime drama made in 1955.

- P. Ramlee also stars as a young soldier and rose to be a hero of the people.
- It will be an outdoor screening at Reflections at Bukit Chandu, which is also where our Malay Regiment defended Singapore during the WWII. A famous battle – Battle of Pasir Panjang – is fought here from 8-14th Feb 1942. ".
