The Walt Disney Company today announced that the Project Application Report (PAR) for a Disney theme park in the Pudong district of Shanghai has received approval from the relevant authorities of the central government of China. The initial resort, with a mix of shopping areas, hotels and a Magic Kingdom-style theme park will be a little bigger than Disneyland in California and on par with the parks in Paris and Tokyo. It is expected to open in five or six years. A slew of theme parks will be opening in the next few years beginning with our very own Universal Studio Singapore in early 2010, and Legoland Malaysia in 2013. Not forgetting the existing Warner Bros Movie World in Gold Coast, Australia, Universal Studio Osaka, Disneyland Tokyo, Ocean Park Hong Kong and of course, Disneyland Hong Kong which opened in 2005.
