Touted as the next possible China entry for the upcoming Oscar Foreign Language category, The Banquet (Ye Yan), loosely based on Shakespear’s Hamlet, depicts the power struggle in the midst of a failing empire, among the young Empress (Zhang Zhiyi), an exiled Crown Prince (Daniel Wu) and the current Emperor (Ge You).
Director Feng Xiaogang directs this tale of intricate love, murder and betrayal with the hottest stars from China and Hong Kong. Look out for this film.
