300 breaks record as highest opening weekend box office for a M18 film

The Warner Bros epic, 300, grossed the industry’s highest opening weekend box office ever for a M18 film. With a box office of $988, 671.50 (113, 456 admissions), it outperformed the previous record holder The Passion of the Christ ($982, 330) in 2004.

This visually stunning film also performed spectacularly in the United States where it earned a whopping US$70million in its opening weekend.

Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is directed by Zack Synder (Dawn of the Dead).

300 opened in cinemas here on the 8th march with 29 prints and has been rated M18 for Battle Violence.
