THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGHT TIME wins top award at Japan Academy

THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGHT TIME was awarded Animation of the Year at the 30th Japan Academy Award. Director Mamoru Hosoda's animation is a time-travel piece about a 17 year old high school girl who gains power to transcend space.

The animation beat big budget favourites BRAVE STORY (Koichi Chigira) and TALES FROM EARTHSEA (Goro Miyazaki) to win the honours. For Hosoda, winning the inaugural animination prize is a sweet victory. Earlier on, Studio Ghibli fired him on HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE and director Hayao Miyazaki came on board.

THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGHT TIME is distributed in Singapore by Cathay-Keris Films. The movie is slate for release this May.
