EXPERIENCE THE SOUL FOOD OF JAPAN - UDON

Will the movie that led to the nationwide udon craze in Japan spark an interest in the thick wheat noodle here in Singapore?

In conjunction with the release of the movie, UDON, the film distributor, Cathay-Keris Films will be giving away a free bowl of udon to anyone who presents the movie flyer on Saturday 19 May 2007 at the UDON pushcart at Cineleisure Orchard Level 1 from 2 pm onwards.

This publicity activity is co-sponsored by the California Sushi Academy and Mizkan. The noodles will be pre-cooked and distributed whilst stocks last.

The California Sushi Academy, a culinary school with a focus on Japanese cuisine will also be conducting a special class on making fresh udon. Founder, Sinma Dashow is inspired by the movie and feels strongly that the values demonstrated
in the movie are the true reflections of a good chef.

From the same production team of the box-office hit, 'Bayside Shakedown', UDON is a comedy drama about a debt-ridden man who rediscovered the love of udon and created a nationwide craze for the noodle in his hometown, Kagawa Prefecture. The movie opens exclusively at Cathay Cineplex Orchard and The Cathay Cineplex from 17 May 07.

About UDON the movie
Kosuke, the son of an udon shop owner, is from a small rural town in Kagawa prefecture, known for its udon noodle. Kosuke, however, is tired of his hometown where nothing happens. He decides to try his luck in New York, only to return siz years later in debt-ridden disappointment. Back at home, he meets flight food column editor, Kyoko and the two chance upon a bowl of delicious udon noodles that will change their lives. Rediscovering the love for the noodle, Kosuke joins an upstart magazine that eventually sparks a nationwide udon phenomenon.
